Search Engine Ranking
The term Search Engine Ranking loosely refers to a searchengine's measure of a page's
relevancy for a websearch query.

Information
Each search engine has its own unique way of determining a page's relevancy. When a search
for a keyword phrase is executed, a search engine will find all the relevant pages for that
search and rank them accordingly. The page ranked number 1 for a particular web search is
the page that the search engine considers the most relevant for that search.
Web Marketing understands that there are a number of factors involved when a
search engine calculates a web page's relevancy, and hence its search engine ranking,
for a keyword phrase. Some factors include the use of the keywords on the web page - where
they are placed, how often they appear, how often they appear relative to other keywords etc.
Another very important factor in determining a web page's relevancy is what is know as
"Off-Page Criteria". This refers to elements about a web page that are beyond that
web page, for example, who is viewing the page, who is linking to the page, what are the
pages about that the web page is linking to, etc. Currently, it is estimated that 95% of
search engines use complex technology to examine each web page for its "Off-Page Criteria".
